What are the differences with OmegaT? What made it necessary to fork to Autshumato ITE?

Autshumato ITE is a fork of an older version of OmegaT. I believe Autshumato itself is a machine-translation project run by the Potchefstroom university, to develop NMT engines for local South African languages. The fork was funded by the South African government. Apparently, the hope was initially that certain government departments would use it. The fork was funded by the South African government. Apparently, the hope was initially that certain government departments would use it. Or perhaps they just used OmegaT as a convenient vehicle to showcase MT and spell-checking capabilities. From what I can remember, Autshumato ITE was bundled with MT and spell-checkers for local languages. Other than that, it's simply an older version of OmegaT.

Since you're looking into OmegaT right now, I can tell you of two other notable forks:

- OmegaT+ is a fork of a quite a bit older version of OmegaT. The developer was unhappy with his treatment by other OmegaT developers and disagreed with the direction of the development of OmegaT, so he forked the project and continued to develop it for a while, but he did not keep his fork compatible with the official OmegaT. Do not ask OmegaT+ questions on the official OmegaT support forums.

- OmegaT DGT is a fork that was developed for in-house use in the DGT. The developer is on good speaking terms with the official OmegaT's developers and I believe the two projects have borrowed code from each other in the past. Newer versions of OmegaT DGT remain fully compatible with the official OmegaT, and it's only one or two minor version numbers behind it. I believe the DGT version was initially created to remove certain features that the DGT's official policy prohibited in a CAT tool. The DGT version also has a different DOCX filter (although you can use both versions' filters in both versions of the program, if you copy it over).
