the missing sailor was a little too into swabbing the deck. i think he went over
ডুবে যাওয়া

Explanation:
I am explaining only the fun side of it. Person one: The missing sailor was too much engaged in swabbing the deck. Person two: I think he went overboard. Here going overboard has two meanings. Being too much enthusiastic is called 'going overboard', and 'to slip and drown from a boat' is also called going overboard. So the fun is in the second part of the statement.

The text was not complete. The complete text is "The missing sailor was a little TOO into swabbing the deck. I think he went overboard." In that case the meaning is:

নিখোঁজ নাবিক ডেক মোছার কাজে একটু বেশি সময় নিচ্ছিল। আমার মনে হয় সে আগ্রহী/ উৎসাহী হয়ে উঠেছিল।

Here 'go overboard' is an idiom which means 'to go to extremes, especially as a result of enthusiasm'.

Meaning of a text can be different if the text is an idiom or a proverb, but it can't be different if it's a joke. Joke is something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line. It needs to be understood and for that sometimes background knowledge is essential.

Hi
I do not have exact answer so I have posted the explanation under this category. The meaning of joke is - the sailor who was busy in cleaning (swabbing) the deck finally cleaned himself! এত মন দিয়ে ডেকের নোংরা পরিষ্কার করছিল যে শেষে সে নিজেই পরিষ্কার হয়ে গেছে। সমুদ্রের জলে পড়ে গেছে। kind of a thing!

I hope this explanation would help you to reach to a suitable exact translation!
Thanks
