Hello everyone,

I'm a translator from Turkey, currently living in Montevideo, Uruguay, and I'm planning to spend two months of this year's summer in Rio de Janeiro.

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone here lives in Rio and would like to have a roommate from January until March. It is summer holidays but I will be working from home as well, so I thought maybe if I can live with someone with a more or less similar lifestyle, both parties could

It is summer holidays but I will be working from home as well, so I thought maybe if I can live with someone with a more or less similar lifestyle, both parties could benefit from this cultural interaction

Looking very much forward to replies.

Best,
Banu

Banu, I selected a few groups above where I believe you will have a better chance to find someone to share a flat in Rio.

There are other groups such as Tradutores/Interpretes (https://www.facebook.com/groups/tradutoreseinterpretes/) and Tradutores, interpretes e curiosos ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/tradutoresgrupo/) but these are huge groups where you can also post your proposal.

Send a message to the administrators explaining what your proposal and asking permission to post.

Good luck!

Dear Banu,
I am a PT/EN translator and live in Jundiaí which is some 400 km from Rio.
You don't say if you have ever been to Rio before, but it is surely the most wonderful city in the world.
Yes, the groups that Patrícia has mentioned will surely help you find a flat in Rio. Stick to the Zona Sul if you can, you will be nearer the beach and far from the violent areas which are mostly in the North Zone, after the Maracanã Stadium.

Rio is a particularly active city for translators' activities and socialising. Barcamps are every month and there are many courses too, as most of the translation translation companies are based there (DBB and Brasillis are the best known). If Isa Mara Lando gives a workshop while you are there, take the opportunity! Her talks are ISAMARAvellous! Usually in Portuguese though.
Maybe people could even open a powwow for you to fellow translators? Jundiaí is a bit too far, I'm afraid, otherwise I would come along. Another active group with Barcamps every month is in São José dos Campos, 300 km from Rio.
Oh, and I don't speak any Turkish, the only word I know is 'Galatasaray'...
Vou escrever um pouco em português ainda hoje.
PAUL
