English translation: Mossos d’esquadra

Law: Contract(s)
Catalan term or phrase: Mossos d’esquadra
"Departament d’Interior de la Generalitat de Catalunya (proyecto de Mossos d’esquadra)" Sorry, I don't have much context here. This appears in a services contract in Spanish, however certain Department names are in Catalan (a language I don't know). Is Mosos d'esquadra "police", or some such thing? Thanks in advance.

Explanation:
Bret,

The Mossos d’esquadra are the police force in Catalunya.
They are gradually replacing the Guardia Civil in their previous functions such as vigilance outside cities, ports, airports, traffic, etc.....

In principle I wouldn't translate it but add a description between brackets): this depends on your "target reader".

If it's somebody who it is reasonable to assume knows that Spain is divided into 17 Comunidades Autonómicas, you could use "Autonomic Police Force".

This would be for the same reader who knows that the Basque has its equivalent to the Mossos d’esquadra, called the "Ertzaintza"

If you're dealing with a reader who is unaware of all this, I'd suggest "Regional Police Force".

Saludos,
Andy

On second thoughts, \"Catalan Police Force\" would be more appropriate as a description between brackets..
