Producció d'animals de laboratori i estabularis Breeding of laboratory and farm animals Explanation: According to the GEC (Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana), "estabulari" means m ZOOT Instal·lació especial on hom cria animals --generalment mamífers-- per a recerca en laboratoris biològics. However, this is the definition of "estabulari" as a noun, whereas here the use of the plural ("estabularis") clearly indicates that it's an adjective that qualifies "animals", and therefore derived from "estable" (stable) and the verb "estabular" (meaning "Criar i mantenir el bestiar en estables"), so my take is that they're speaking of farm animals. BTW, they're talking about "production" (breeding, raising) itself, not the facilities where they're bred. HTH, Martin |

Producció d'animals de laboratori i estabularis (laboratory) animal facilities Explanation: With regards 'estabulari' - I actually asked this question back in 2001 and this was one of the proposed answers. HTH Sheila Gran Diccionari de la Llengua Catalan diu: Instal·la ció especial on hom cria animals--generalment mamifers-- per a recerca en laboratoris biològics. What I meant to say was that there are two things: laboratori = laboratory estabulari = animal facility (or even \'animal unit\' perhaps?) I hope that makes it a wee bit clearer:-) Sheila # Eating, drinking, smoking and the application of cosmetics and contact lenses are forbidden in animal rooms and procedure rooms. Contact between the hands and the nose, eyes, or mouth must be avoided. What about \'de granja\'? See the reference below - I think this may even be part of the text you are translating. I\'d say that \'animals de granja\' would be \'farm animals\'. However here I believe they are referring to animals bred in animal facilities (units) for research purposes in laboratories etc. Animals such as mice, rats, rabbits etc. I don\'t think I would call them \'farm\' animals in English though. I realise that the word is being used as an adjective here - but I\'d say they meant \'animals bred in animal facilities\' - which is not very elegant, I know. \'Farm\' sounds far more elegant, I agree, but I just don\'t know that it would be correct. In the end, I may be wrong - but I even think you might not need to repeat \'laboratory\' and \'animal facility\' (or \'animal unit\') - maybe \'breeding laboratory animals\' might be sufficient for the course title. Sorry for rambling on about this! • Control de malalties i conservació d\'animals salvatges i silvestres en zoològics i espais naturals • Producció d’animals de laboratori i ***estabularis*** • Laboratoris d’enginyeria genètica i de bioalimentació http://www.uab.es/estudis/veterinaria.htm — TUR, J. Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) Program Overview The Masters of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) degree is a two year program (can be completed full or part-time) designed for students who want to pursue advanced careers in laboratory animal science or laboratory animal facility management. Most classes are scheduled in late afternoon and early evening to accommodate working professionals.
