as I know you also understand Portuguese I think I can help you by saying that espittleres are "seteiras" in Portuguese. I think the best translation into English is loop-hole

As far as I am aware embrasures are those openings in castle walls that were destined to firing canon balls. Loop-holes are mainly described as for shooting arrows.
