fathom Explanation: Fathom is OK. It is not 1,76 but 1,67 metre: the distance from the fingertips of one hand to the fingertips of the other hand when you hold your arms spread. In the first case it means you can fish it at a distance of at least approximately 80 metre onwards from the shore. |

convert to metric or imperial measure Explanation: Using fathoms to indicate distance also sounds odd to me. The references I can find where "fathoms" is used to indicate a distance from shore all appear to be historical texts. See: http://www.google.es/search?hl=en&q="fathoms from the shore"...
