Catalan term or phrase: Estany
Estany de Mar, Rius, Monges, Mangades, Travessani, Negre, Contraix, Gerber o Saboredo.

They speak of wathers in Catalonia. A pond? Estanque in Spanish?

English translation:Lake
Explanation:
I would translate the word the first time it appears then leave it as part of the place name.

Although 'estany' is usually translated as 'pond', if you look at the photos in the reference, they look more lie lakes.

'Estany' is a lake, not a pond!

Estany i no llac.

  -> Thank you, Etienne :)

agree  Berni Armstrong: Beware! If the "Estany" is manmade we usually call that a "reservoir" in UK English, at least.

  -> Thanks, Berni! Actually I initially wrote 'lake/reservoir' but after seeing about 10 photos of the lakes in Tripadvisor and similar places, I deleted 'reservoir' from my answer. They don't seem to be manmade.
