Thanks for the answer but I don't think thesis or dissertation is appropriate. For a masters work the student of course has to provide a theoretical element - a thesis in the case of a masters. So the 'autorská kniha' is accompanied by a written theoretical element or thesis. But the 'autorská kniha' itself not the thesis. It is the creative element of the work that the thesis is about. It can also, when not being part of a masters, exist as a stand alone work. As part of a degree course for example.

Autorská kniha is definitely not a portfolio. It's a bound body of work on a specific subject of the artists choosing. It can also be printed in limited edition print runs and sold for profit. I've seen for example by one artist an illustrated biography of Marilyn Monroe.

Author's book is the obvious literal translation but it doesn't really convey the correct meaning in English.
