register office, registry office, registry... you'll find all of them, depending on the place. My point was that a registry is where registers (whether matriční or otherwise) are maintained (e.g. katastrální úřad = land registry). (I know, I was stating the bleeding obvious.) :-)

Asker: Sounds right! Thanks for such a quick reply. You probably win the points, but there's some time limit before I can award them. Plus isn't the "registry" more colloquial? At least that's what Wikipedia says (I know, Wikipedia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Register_office_(United_Kingdom)
