Maybe so... but I haven't heard of them, and it's difficult to find an exact parallel. And especially so because your text is literary, and no doubt the fine distinctions drawn in the story of Otesánek are critical to understanding the reference, there is not much more you can do than footnote, explain briefly in your own words, and point to other sources for explanation.
