Omdat hier over een elektrische en mechanische controle wordt gesproken, maak ik op dat hier de functie wordt bedoeld en geen onderdeel.
Je kunt het dan de 'schakelfunctie' noemen, of 'het schakelen' (in een (andere) versnelling).
Maar het is een vreemde constructie: schakelen gebeurt doorgaans of mechanisch of elektrisch. Het zou kunnen zijn dat mechanisch wordt geschakeld en de schakelstand elektrisch op een display wordt aangegeven.
Meer kan ik er op dit moment niet van maken.
