A shell and tube heat exchanger is a class of heat exchanger designs.[1][2] It is the most common type of heat exchanger in oil refineries and other large chemical processes, and is suited for higher-pressure applications. As its name implies, this type of heat exchanger consists of a shell (a large pressure vessel) with a bundle of tubes inside it. One fluid runs through the tubes, and another fluid flows over the tubes (through the shell) to transfer heat between the two fluids. The set of tubes is called a tube bundle, and may be composed of several types of tubes: plain, longitudinally finned, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_and_tube_heat_exchanger -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 12 hrs (2020-11-02 00:32:49 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Those shell and tube heat exchangers come is different designs. The U tube design compares best with the bayonet heater. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_and_tube_heat_exchanger -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 18 hrs (2020-11-02 06:55:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Another type of shell and tube heat exchanger is the bayonet exchanger. A series of concentric tubes makes up the tube bundle with the outer tube of each pair being sealed at one end. The inner and outer tubes are each fitted to separate tube sheets allowing their independent removal for cleaning and repair. http://pmarpl.com.au/training/pmaops205b/proc205-010301-shel... industriële warmtewisselaars Industrial Heat Exchanger Options Here at American Heating Company, we manufacture a few different styles of heat exchangers, all made in the USA and built to ASME code. If you’re contemplating what type of heat exchanger you need, reviewing these options and the similarities and differences between them is a good place to start. Suction Heaters Suction heaters are essentially industrial heat exchangers that consist of a tube bundle mounted inside of a shell that is open at one end and closed at the other. Utilizing hot oil, steam, or another type of thermal fluid as a heat transfer medium, they heat material as it flows through the exchanger and exits the storage tank. These industrial heat exchangers heat only the liquid that is being pumped through them, as opposed to heating all of the material in the tank. They are designed to bolt onto the manway flange within the storage tank. If you’re looking to efficiently heat material as it exits the storage tank, a suction heater is likely your best bet. Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers Shell and tube heat exchangers can be used to transfer heat to a variety of materials, including asphalt and water based liquids. They heat materials through the use of either hot oil or steam. Featuring bare tube exchangers, shell and tube style industrial heat exchangers are designed similarly to suction heaters with one key distinction. Rather than being placed in the storage tank with the product, shell and tube heat exchangers are positioned externally on the material storage tanks instead. If you need a heat exchanger that won’t take up room in your material storage tank and can heat only the material moving through it, a shell and tube heat exchanger is likely the way to go. Bayonet Heaters Like suction heaters, bayonet tank heaters are industrial heat exchangers designed to be positioned within the material’s storage tank. They consist of tube bundles with coils that are completely open to the fluid within a storage tank. Unlike suction heaters and shell and tube heat exchangers, however, bayonet heaters are capable of heating an entire tank rather that just the material actively through them. If you are searching for an industrial heat exchanger capable of efficiently heating large quantities of material, a bayonet heater is likely the solution you need. https://www.americanheatingco.com/heat-exchangers/shell-and-... images of the 3 types https://www.americanheatingco.com/heat-exchangers/ |
