De Wereld Bosatlas noemt dit Oceanië, volgens Encarta heet het Australazië. Ik vermoed dat Oceanië de correcte term is, maar twijfel omdat Australazië misschien duidelijker is voor de lezer. De tekst waarin deze term voorkomt is namelijk niet geografisch van aard. Bij de vertaling van een zinsnede als "the average European or Australasian home" vind ik "Oceanische woning" toch wel erg exotisch klinken...

Dan heeft de schrijver ongetwijfeld "Australië en Azië" bezoeld, want daar gebruikt men 220 volt (behalve in Japan, maar hij/zij zegt dan ook "average home")

Explanation:
letterlijk is het Australazië (het gebied ten zuiden van Azië en dus niet hetzelfde als Oceanië - een deel van Indonesië hoort erbij maar Tahiti niet om maar wat te noemen).

maar omdat het hier blijkbaar om een bouw- of inrichtingsstijl gaat, lijkt het me sterk dat de auteur de stijlen van Europa, Australië, Nieuw-Zeeland én Papua Nieuw Guinea op één hoop wil gooien.

misschien kun je het zelfs zo omschrijven: de gemiddelde woning van het type dat je kunt aantreffen in Europa, Australië of Nieuw-Zeeland...

hangt uiteraard van de rest van de context af.

Ronald van der Linden (X): Australazië is verbasterd Engels. Correcte term is Oceanië. Voor de context, deel ik de mening om je te beperken tot Australië en Nieuw Zeeland landen van Oceanië; de auteur wil Europa niet vergelijken met Tahiti of Guam.
