English term or phrase: to walk supporting oneself on furniture
Greetings,

Believe it or not, this is one single concept, however clumsy English seems to be in this respect. With regard to infants, it refers to the intermediate stage between crawling and walking: the child is moving around on its feet, but can only walk by supporting itself on chairs and other suitable objects in the room.

Turkish has a single word for this: sıralamak – the word sıra is actually from Greek and is cognate with the English word ‘series’, as the child relies on a series of objects in order to stay on foot.

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

Explanation:
