文脈は、

agree  xcoder: Yasutomo Kanazawaさんの訳/解釈で合っていると思います。「聞いた耳を疑う」って日本語でも表現あったような気がしてますが。factor という単語が入っている以上、「およそ100倍も」というのは確かです。

耳をつんざくような

これは後に来る100と関連づけて考えると、ロックコンサート並みのデシベル級(騒音の強さ)だ、ということです。100倍ではないと思います。100の後には倍に相当する語がありません。 ロックコンサートでは105~110デシベルの騒音の強さに相当します。

ちなみに、騒音による聴覚の受けるダメージを考慮して、85デシベルを1日8時間までと政府は規定しています。。。。ですから、100は、100デシベルを言うのです。

オンラインで見つけた例ではmind blowing, ear drum burstingが使用されていますが、心がブっ飛び、耳の鼓膜がブッちぎれる。。。という表現だと思います。

Ear blowing up balloon は、自分で破裂させるつもりで、風船をふくらませているようですから、耳がつんざけるだろう。。。と想定した風船、ということでしょう。

驚くべきことにorなんと100倍近くも


Explanation:
"jaw-dropping"や"eye-poping"と同じ類の「驚き」を強調する表現で、むしろ「..-blowing」なら"mind-blowing"の方が一般的ですが、気象関連ということで、もしかしたら「風速」あるいは「雷鳴の大きさ」などとかけていることによって、あえてこの表現を選んでいるのかな..と察しますがいかがでしょう。
