My source text simply lists EZ-down ladders as part of the equipment in a seed processing plant. For more specific reference, I will copy below an explanation found on internet at

"An E-Z down ladder (Figure 4) is a rectangular tube having a series or zig-zag
curved baffles inside. The open type ladder has openings on two sides ninety (90)
degrees to the inside curved baffles and is used inside bins or tanks. The closed
type ladder does not have the side openings but is entirely enclosed with sheet
metal on all sides and is used in place of spouting material when long spouts
cannot be avoided. As the seeds flow through the ladder they follow a cascade zigzag course and never obtain as high a velocity as they would in free fall. "

escalera amortiguador~ Su funci6n es detener la calda libre de la semilla
desde alturas de mAs de 3 m. Generalmente, al llenar grandes tolvas,
dep6sitos o silos de semillas desde grandes alturas. las semillas pueden
dañarse al caer. El "mata caidas" es un transportador metAlico vertical
que se instala en las paredes de los silos y su forma hace que la semilla
baje en forma de ·zig zaga, aminorando su velocidad hasta llegar al fondo
del silo. Esto permite que el silo se llene paulatinamente de semillas,
sin que ocurra daño alguno (Figuras 66 y 67).
