I'm revising a scientific article on "Efficacy and safety Safety of Three Catheters in a Stepwise Approach Toto Typical Atrial Flutter"
I have difficulty with the part "pacing septally and laterally". This is the full sentence:
In patients with sinus rhythm, isthmus conduction was verified by pacing septally and laterally of the isthmus before ablation.
What do you think should be used instead of this phrase?

neutral  Armorel Young: I'm not sure you say it can't be used as an adverb. We have no difficulty with lateral - laterally, ventral - ventrally, dorsal - dorsally, so why not septal - septally?

I think the question here is whether the person skilled in the art of cardiology and sub specialties including electrophysiology would understand “septally” to be correct in this context. I think the answer to this is YES.

The second question would then be, whether the same form would be used in the target language. If you are doing an English edit, leave it as is.
