Any suggestion would be appreciated.
The shaft looks to have been torn off if that helps, and the centre of the depression is "matée ".

neutral  Tony M: I'd say it's very unlikely that the central part of a shaft would be specifically 'hardened' — at best, you might find surface or case-hardening for the bearing surfaces, but hardly for the internal rupture plane...
