homothetic book Explanation: Not my field, but this may help set you on track for further searches. In addition to MCHD's reference, this may help : http://www.cnetfrance.fr/news/une-nouvelle-generation-de-liv... The essential info I believe, is the fact that this type of digital book does not rework the original layout with an e-reader in mind. It is identical in presentation to the paper version, hence "homo". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 23 mins (2014-06-09 14:56:09 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "homothétie" is a mathematical term which describes the act of scaling. Thus you have a digital version which simply adjusts the scale of the paper original to make it readable on an e-reader. The adaptation starts and ends there. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 26 mins (2014-06-09 14:58:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Or "homothetic ebook". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 26 mins (2014-06-09 14:59:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.drb.ie/blog/the-book/2013/02/22/who-will-own-eboo... The different treatment of physical books and ebooks in terms of VAT rates has long been unpopular in France, Le Monde reports, at least in regard to what are called “homothetic” ebooks, that is those which simply reproduce the text of their physical equivalents without any multimedia “enrichment”. A low rate is also presented as a way of encouraging the rather slow development of ebooks in France and in particular of combating the power of Amazon. - See more at: http://www.drb.ie/blog/the-book/2013/02/22/who-will-own-eboo... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 31 mins (2014-06-09 15:03:37 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hesitated before posting this as the original is obviously French. However, it may be of use : http://conference.ifla.org/past-wlic/2012/99-trevian-en.pdf "Homothetic e-books: those are just books that can be read on a screen. The text and illustrations are exactly the same as those of the paper book." |
