German term or phrase: Bestandsverkäufer
This is a term that keeps cropping up in a document I'm translating about some tricky little practices on the financial markets (somewhat confidential, so apologies for being rather vague!). It's used as a contrast to "Leerverkäufer" to refer to someone who actually owns the stocks/securities they're selling, as opposed to selling them short, and it's also used synonymously with "Inhaberverkäufer"/derivatives of these words (see examples below).

It's clear what the word itself means - but my question is, do we have a neat term in English that encapsulates this? I'm drawing a blank, and I've been staring at this document for so long that I suspect I might be missing the obvious solution!

long seller
Explanation:
While not seen as often as short seller, a person who sells equities that they actually own (are "long" the stock) is a long seller.

These, Jennifer - as in one of my favourite Donovan songs of the Swinging Sixties - are prime examples of mindless comments: 'I have no clue but I know for sure that you do,' ' So-and-so is or was a respected and renowned (infallible) translator. So his or her answer must be right' (implied: and yours wrong).

Example sentence(s):
  • Covered Puts Strategy When advisors suggest writing puts they generally mean naked puts, which are very risky. With covered puts you have already sold the stock short, so you don't care if it drops sharply.
  • "Put to seller" describes the process of a put option being exercised. ...being long puts gives the holder the right to sell the underlying asset.

Asker: Thanks for your suggestion, Adrian, although I'm a little confused by your reference to "mindless comments" (!) - do feel free to elaborate!
