Desde el Paleolítico, casi en toda Europa, los cazadores arrancan
algunos dientes a las piezas abatidas para hacer sencillos adornos;
en España se llaman perlas de ciervo. Quizá sea solo un remoto
recuerdo paleolítico, quizá sea uno de nuestros más antiguos
atavismos.
Los ciervos tienen dos dientes muy peculiares, suaves al tacto, de
forma redondeada y alargada, como una gota: son los caninos
atrofiados. Los encontramos dispersos o agrupados en todo
yacimiento arqueológico del Paleolítico superior. Por su belleza y
escasez eran apreciados y valorados como joyas.
