Hibernation State of greatly slowed metabolism and low body temperature in winter in certain animals. True hibernators include many cold-blooded animals and a few mammals (e.g., bats, hedgehogs) that go into a near-dead state with a near-freezing body temperature and very slow breathing and heart rate. http://www.answers.com/topic/hibernation Az alábbi cikkben a hibernate szót használják idézőjelben. A cikkben egyéb kifejezések is szerepelnek az elvermelés kifejezésére. pl. go dormant Example sentence(s):

Ezért a kérdezett mondatban a "vermelés idején" részt én "during winter dormancy" formában fordítanám. Ezért a fordításra inkább a "sedentary period" kifejezést ajánlanám. Some fish, like bullheads, even take it a little bit further and burrow in the mud or gravel for a little extra warmth. Ez a rövid cikk Wisconsinból jó összefoglalást ad a halakról télen, angol nyelvterületi szemszögből: dnr.wi.gov/wnrmag/2009/12/ice.htm |

enters a dormant state / goes into semi-hibernation Explanation: Nem ugyanaz, mint a hibernation, a halak különböző módszerekkel tartják fent alapvető létfunkcióikat. Lelassult légzés, metabolizmus, sőt még "fagyálló fehérjék" is termelődnek a vérükben. "The research demonstrates that at least some fish species can enter a dormant state, similar to hibernation that is not temperature driven and presumably provides seasonal energetic benefits. (...) Fish have very low metabolic rates and blood 'antifreeze' proteins that allow them to live in near-freezing waters." "Q: How do fish survive under the ice in winter? A: Fish remove oxygen from the water as it flows across their gills. In streams, many fish take refuge in pools during the winter. In lakes, ice cover only becomes a problem if it lasts a long time and is thick, separating the water from its source of oxygen — the atmosphere. This results in a decrease in oxygen concentration in the water. Fish typically don't freeze under the ice as they have slightly higher concentrations of ions (salinity) than water, and therefore, have a lower freezing point than water. Fish that live in very cold climates have different abilities to deal with freezing temperatures. For example, some fish have blood that contains "antifreeze" compounds that depress the freezing point of their body fluids and make it possible for them to live in water that is colder than the freezing point of most fish blood." |
