Norwegian term or phrase: bindende påmelding
In Norwegian you can say "bindende påmelding", e.g. when registering for a course, which means that when you have signed up you will have to pay, even if you don't participate. Is there a similar term or phrase in English.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I was trying to avoid "binding registration", as it does not sound right to me. I prefer something like "non-refundable registration fee", but nobody has entered it so I can select it and award points.

agree  William [Bill] Gray: Binding registration is a little strange in English, I think, though it is used. But can they FORCE you to attend. We tend rather I think to focus on a "non-refundable registration deposit". Google: 23500 hits versus 2,800,000

  -> Thanks, Bill

neutral  Egil Presttun: "Non-refundable registration fee" is what it takes to get 2.800.000 hits. As far as I can see, it's mostly non-English sites which use the term "binding registration".

  -> I wasn't thinking as far as a fee being involved, but of course if there were, then your suggestion is the best, Egil. Gonna enter it and earn some credit?

neutral  lingo_montreal: I absolutely agree with Egil -- "non-refundable (registration fee)"; the term "binding" seems more common in collocations such as "binding arbitration" or "binding commitment".

  -> Point taken, lingo!

agree  Andrew Alix: I agree with Egil as well. It doesn't seem that they would bind you to something unless it costs you to register.
