The main players in this legal arena are advocates, attorneys-at-law, notaries, prosecutors and judges. There are other professionals such as bailiffs, tax advisors, patent attorneys, court appointed guardians and others, but for the purpose of this overview, I shall confine myself to the main players.

Advocates in Poland provide legal services with a view to protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms. They offer legal assistance and prepare legal opinions. They also ensure that parties are represented in criminal, civil, family-law and juvenile cases, cases involving labour and social security law and proceedings before the Supreme Administrative Court.

Professional specialisation is not imposed in Poland - advocates are free to choose the field in which they specialise. However, because Polish law guarantees state-appointed counsel for financially disadvantaged parties, advocates must be able to provide legal services in cases involving different areas of the law.

There are 24 regional bar councils and the Polish Bar Council operating at national level. These professional associations are responsible for representing and protecting the professional rights of advocates, developing their professional skills, providing training to trainees and establishing, promoting and enforcing rules of professional conduct.

An “advocate” is the Scottish equivalent of a barrister in England and Wales. All advocates are members of the Faculty of Advocates based in Parliament House in Edinburgh, where the supreme courts are located. The Faculty is responsible for the admission of advocates and their professional conduct. It also provides library facilities, including the renowned Advocates’ Library.

An advocate is a professional in the field of law. Different countries' legal systems use the term with somewhat differing meanings. The broad equivalent in many English law–based jurisdictions could be a barrister or a solicitor. However, in Scottish, Manx Law (the law of the Isle of Man), South African, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Scandinavian, Polish, Israeli, South Asian and South American jurisdictions, "Advocate" indicates a lawyer of superior classification.

The body that administers the Scottish Bar is the Faculty of Advocates. Having completed the diploma, a trainee advocate (or 'intrant') must undertake a 21-month period of paid training in a solicitors' office (as for a trainee solicitor above, although slightly shorter), followed by a nine-month period 'devilling' as an unpaid pupil to an advocate. The trainee must then pass an exam set by the Faculty of Advocates covering written and oral advocacy. At this stage, he or she is admitted as an advocate.

neutral  Ewa Dabrowska: raczej nie używa się słowa "advocate" w znaczeniu prawnik/radca prawny przynajmniej w UK (za wyjątkiem High Court Advocate), a i w USA chyba też nie. To słowo raczej oznacza ogólnego doradcę

-> Tak, no prawie.
