the side of the building Explanation: This was my first thought before reading the discussion. My interpretation: The ladder refers to how he might have gained access to the courtyard, presumably enclosed by a high wall or fence. But the text doesn't say that he actually used one; it's simply the typical means of accessing the courtyard. From there, he landed on the ground (presumably inside the courtyard) near the side of the main building. The ladder isn't related to his position near the side of the building. However he got inside, he must have had to jump down that height, and that's how he cracked his head open. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 18 hrs (2019-09-10 09:35:41 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ... jumped *down* from that height. |
