People think that translating is an easy job. I don't know of any translators that would agree. We all struggle with our assignments. You are expressing a common frustration that binds us all in this profession. Thank heavens for ProZ's initiative (and creativity) in designing a forum such as this! It not only helps us move forward on difficult assignments, but also provides a forum where we can learn from each other's knowledge and experience. You have nothing to explain or apologize for. As far as I'm concerned, you have made admirable use of this tool and contributed much to the stored online knowledgebase of this site. At least for my part, you are always welcome here!

I use several diccionaries to try to translate these difficult terms. I'm no genius so I don't grasp the dictionnaires. I 'm too confused often, I don't know which translation to choose. And these dictionnaries aren't that good. I do my best. I really don't know how to translate these terms, otherwise I wouldn't be asking for your help brothers sisters. Thanks.

this endless stream of rantings /ravings should be designated 'offensive' by Proz. I notice that translators tend to ignore these postings. The lack of personal response from the Asker and the machine generated list of possibilities are perplexing. Not our business but you wonder what it's all in aid of.

When an asker doesn't include their own translation attempt(s) for the term they submit, it doesn't take long for them to be accused of using the forum to get others to do their work. Like I said before, these discussions should limit themselves to the linguistic aspects of the term in question. If we don't have anything to say about the term or the translations proposed, we should keep our opinions to ourselves and move on to the next term. I believe this is stated in the rules.

Perhaps just me, but I find your usual "multiple choice" options at the end annoying. Go ahead and ask for help, but then let us figure it out and propose our own ideas.

Are we not arguing in favor of censuring certain religious beliefs? I don't believe this topic falls within the competence of our profession. We translate, so that everyone knows what everyone else is saying. Other forces can then shape our destiny as they see fit. We are merely an instrument in that process, not the end judges of it. I don't believe that entries should be vetted based on context. Whether or not we choose to accept a job is an individual prerogative. In this forum, I think, we should limit ourselves to the linguistic problem of translating the contents. As linguists, we should be the strongest advocates for freedom of speech.

The limit of our power is that we can ignore the entry, and scroll on to the next one. That is appropriate, sufficient, and right. We should know our place and be content with that.

I think Beatriz has a point. Some people will say if you find this text offensive, don't look at Jenny's questions, but I don't think we should have to make that choice in the first place. She's been posting these since March.
It would be interesting to know her perspective, but she doesn't answer questions about the text - especially why she's doing this given that she admits her English is "terrible".
One that stands out in my mind, apart from this homophobic example, is Barack Obama, the "Antichrist", having his head blown off.
