This term appears in a manual for customised countertop and sink units.

I understand it as something like "alternative finish" but am interested in hearing other ideas.

Here's the context:

1. Välj bänkskivans längd.
2. Välj vilken disklåda bänken ska ha
samt disklådans placering.
3. Välj vilka kantprofiler bänken ska ha.
4. Välj de tillbehör som önskas.
5. Välj eventuella variantutföranden.

Since it is a manual, I think using a common wording is preferable. In your example phrase, I;d put "if desired," to indicate the optional quality suggested by "eventuella".

This said - the swedish wording is not that straightforward, which makes me think: is your original perhaps already a translation?

Variant is the production technical Eng term which is also used in Swe.

Lots of hits on 'Variant design' for some reading. The first reference. Fewer hits for "variant design" + "kitchen counter" -- the second reference.

disagree  Daniel Olsson: Wrong context. It is a manual, not a scientific article about design. Yes, but "variant design" is a concept. "Variantutföranden" is not. It is just a way to say there are other options.
