Forums like these were popular in the second half of the Noughties. I was really surprised to see them half alive when I subscribed for the first time in the year 2020. I'm afraid they are going nowhere and will eventually be deleted.

[Bijgewerkt op 2026-07-31 11:19 GMT]

So I tested it but found that it doesn't work for my purposes.

It doesn't handle all of my markdown code correctly and I found no way of converting the translated html file into the proper markdown format after translation. Which means that I cannot use the result.

Katja

Forum: Site forums
Topic: @Mods Where are you? Forums at risk
Poster: kd42
Post title: Thanks again
Baran
Thank you for mentioning the name, I was able to find that thread, it is full of passion, reminded me of this passage by Steinbeck:
Of course everything got really hot at tournament time. Things were very touchy. Those old men brought a passion to the game you wouldn’t believe. Why, two octogenarians would walk away into the woods and you’d find them locked in mortal combat. They even developed secret languages so that each wouldn’t know what the other was talking about.
I visited Baran's profile page, and the LWA is simply excellent, his humour and creativity which some strongly dislike are probably a side effect. Unfortunately, many posts in that thread are hidden by mods, and I cannot make my own judgement.

Which reminds me of a very old observation which is relevant to Proz and this thread. Every user group or a professional forum which I visited and/or contributed to across the last 20+ years begins to inevitably rot from within if:
a) the aggressive majority insists that "we are professionals here!" and tries to chop off any manifestation of a member as a human, a parent, a bird lover, a creator of sick jokes, etc.;
b) the owners and the mods of the community put the letter of their self-proclaimed rules above the spirit of the community, of the forum thread, because mods are people who lean towards fast punishment, ban, amputation instead of treatment, otherwise they would not have been chosen.
When I warned the owners about the bad trends, they normally said this, "Go and create your own glorious fantastic forum before you teach us, The Great Ones!" Most of these communities are now a dried skeleton, some went completely offline. (Proz is still rotting and juicy, and I keep coming back and crawl.)

There are communities which thrive and prosper, because the above circumstances are nearly absent there, I am a member of a couple, therefore I know that paradise is real.

So this story will keep contuining.

Looks like AI is becoming less and less 'non-human' - this looks like the next level from its previous documented shenanigans - doing the opposite of what told and then lying about it (just like your average naughty kid would do).

MemoQ support | Import filter for markdown files wanted

Forum: MemoQ support
Topic: Import filter for markdown files wanted
Poster: Katja Heimann-Kiefer

Hi there,

I am working on a test for a new client who sends me markdown files. Trados (my preferred tool) kind of works but is not handling this format as well as it should. That's why I tried memoQ.

Here, I can import the markdown files as text only but of course then all the marks come up as regular text. Manageable but not helpful. Still, memoQ handles the file format better than Trados, so I'd like to find a way of importing the files properly to have the marks as actual tags.

I see that newer versions of memoQ have a markdown filter but my version doesn't (translator.pro 10.0.10 – because I have been working a lot less for the agency that I mainly used it for, at some point upgrading made no sense).

Is there anywhere I can download a markdown filter for memoQ?

Thanks and best regards
Katja

Some teach us what to do and others teach us what to avoid.
