I. Introduction
1. Bien que le Burkina Faso enregistre l'une des meilleures performances économiques de l'Afrique de l'Ouest, notamment avec un taux de croissance annuel moyen du PIB réel de plus de 5% au cours des années 2000, les chances pour le pays d'atteindre les cibles 1A et 1C du premier Objectif du Millénaire pour le Développement (OMD), à savoir réduire de moitié, entre 1990 et 2015, les proportions de la population extrêmement pauvre et de celle souffrant de faim sont faibles au regard des tendances actuelles.
2. L'incidence de pauvreté extrême est passée de 48,6% en 2003 à 46,7% en 2009. Si le taux de croissance annuel observé au cours de cette période se maintenait au delà de 2009, alors le taux de pauvreté devrait s'établir à 38,5% en 2015. Même si cela correspond à une baisse significative de la pauvreté, ce taux reste largement au-dessus de la cible de 22,25%. La proportion de la population en dessous du niveau minimum d’apport calorique a baissé de 46,6% en 2003 à 36,5% en 2007. Si les tendances actuelles se maintiennent, le niveau de l’indicateur se situerait à 36,64% en 2015 contre une cible de 13,34%, ce qui demeure largement au-dessus de la cible. La prévalence de la malnutrition chronique est passée de 46% en 1998 à 43% en 2003 pour atteindre 33% en 2012. Malgré cette tendance à la baisse, on note toujours dans la plupart des régions du pays la nécessité et l’urgence d’accélérer le rythme de cette réduction pour espérer atteindre les OMD en 2015.
3. Certains goulots d'étranglement limitent la traduction de la croissance en réduction de pauvreté et en amélioration de la sécurité alimentaire. Il s’agit entre autres de la forte croissance démographique, de la faible productivité agricole et des conditions climatiques erratiques ainsi que d'autres chocs internes et externes qui affectent particulièrement les populations les plus pauvres et les plus vulnérables.
4. Pour remédier à la situation, le Burkina Faso a adopté, en janvier 2011, son cadre d'accélération du premier OMD en mettant un accent particulier sur les cibles 1A et 1C. La promotion de la croissance économique ne suffit pas à elle seule à accélérer la réduction de la pauvreté. Il faut que cette croissance soit partagée notamment avec les populations pauvres et vulnérables à travers entre autres la création d'emplois, la lutte contre les inégalités de genre, et l'accroissement des rendements agricoles.

1. Introduction
1. Despite Burkina Faso registering one of the best economic performances in West Africa, particularly with its average annual growth rate in real GDP of more than 5 per cent during the 2000s, recent trends mean it is unlikely the country will achieve targets 1A and 1C of the first Millennium Development Goal (MDG). These targets are to halve between 1990 and 2015 the proportion of the population living in extreme poverty and suffering from hunger.
2. The rate of extreme poverty decreased from 48.6 per cent in 2003 to 46.7 per cent in 2009. If the annual growth rate observed in this period were to continue beyond 2009, the poverty rate would be expected to stand at 38.5 per cent in 2015. Although this represents a significant fall in poverty, the figure still remains far above the target of 22.25 per cent. The proportion of people below the minimum level of calorie intake dropped from 46.6 per cent in 2003 to 36.5 per cent in 2007. If current trends continue, the level will stand at 36.64 per cent in 2015, still far above the target of 13.34 per cent. The prevalence of chronic malnutrition decreased from 46 per cent in 1998 to 43 per cent in 2003, reaching 33 per cent in 2012. Despite this downward trend, in most regions of the country it remains necessary and urgent to accelerate the pace of this reduction to have any hope of achieving the MDGs by 2015.
3. A number of bottlenecks are limiting the effect of economic growth on reducing poverty and improving food security. These include, inter alia, high population growth, low agricultural productivity and vagaries of climate as well as other internal and external shocks which particularly affect the poorest and most vulnerable populations.
4. To remedy the situation, Burkina Faso adopted its MDG1 acceleration framework in January 2011 with particular emphasis on targets 1A and 1C. Promoting economic growth alone is not enough to accelerate poverty reduction. This growth must be shared particularly with poor and vulnerable populations through, inter alia, creating jobs, combating gender inequalities and increasing agricultural yields.

Transformé, agrandi, il a aujourd’hui perdu sa géométrie et ses perspectives mais n’en est pas moins le plus élégant de nos parcs. Les places qui le bordent sont les plus courues de bordeaux, les demeures qui y ont un accès direct se vendent à prix d’or et on comprend pourquoi.
On y trouve des jeux pour les enfants, une bibliothèque, un muséum d’histoire naturelle, un embarcadère, une île, des ponts, un théâtre de marionnettes, un restaurant salon de thé.
C’est notre jardin du Luxembourg, un RV incontournable pour les papas mamans disponibles après l’école, pour les joggeurs le soir venu, les amoureux au premier rayon de soleil, les flâneurs. On a tous une bonne raison de franchir les belles grilles dorées de ce jardin citadin.

This 25-acre park was created in 1746 in a style inspired by Versailles’s very own landscape gardener Le Nôtre. Nowadays, having been extended and transformed, the gardens may have lost some of their original layout and vistas but they nonetheless remain the most elegant of Bordeaux’s parks. The neighbouring squares are the busiest in the city and properties which open directly onto the park sell for a hefty price – and it’s easy to see why.
The park boasts play areas for children, a library, a natural history museum, a jetty, an island, bridges, a puppet theatre and a café. The park is to Bordeaux what the Luxembourg Garden is to Paris: the place to be for mums and dads to meet after the school run, for joggers in the evenings and loved-up couples at sunrise, and for those who just want to take a stroll. There is something for everyone within the golden gates of this garden in the heart of the city.
