around. But early that morning, a small group of masked men detonated an explosive device, clearing the streets and causing shopkeepers to
shutter their stores. From the moment the convoy of Americans entered the city limits, the men stood out – driving vehicles known as “bullet
magnets” and sporting wraparound sunglasses and Tom Cruise haircuts. Shortly after they entered Fallujah, the jeeps began to slow. To their
right were shops and markets; to the left, open space. They had hit some sort of roadblock. As the vehicles came to a standstill, a grenade
was hurled at the rear jeep, quickly followed by the rip of machine-gun fire. Bullets tore through the side of the rear Pajero like salt through
ice, fatally wounding the two men inside. As the blood gushed from them, masked gunmen moved in on the jeeps, unloading cartridges of
ammo and pounding their way through the windshield. Chants of “Allah u Akbar” (God is Great) filled the air. Soon, more than a dozen young
men who had been hanging around in front of a local kebab house joined in the frenzy. By the time the rear jeep was shot up, the Americans
in the lead vehicle realized an ambush was under way. They tried to flee, but it was too late. The crowd quickly swelled to more than three
hundred people, as the original attackers faded into the side streets of Fallujah. The jeeps were soon engulfed in flames, the scorched bodies
of the Americans were pulled out, and men and boys literally tore them apart, limb from limb. In front of the TV cameras, a young man held a
small sign emblazoned with a skull and crossbones that declared in English, “Fallujah is the graveyard of the Americans!" The mob hung the
charred, lifeless remains of the Americans from a bridge over Euphrates, where they would remain for hours, forming an eerily iconic image
that was seen on television screens throughout the world.
Thousands of miles away in Washington D.C., President Bush was on the campaign trail, speaking at a fundraiser dinner. “This
collection of killers is trying to shake our will,” the president told his supporters. “America will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins.
We are aggressively striking the terrorists in Iraq. We will defeat them there so we do not have to face them in our own country.” The next
morning Americans woke up to news of the gruesome killings. “Iraqi Mob Mutilates 4 American Civilians” was a typical newspaper headline.
Somalia was frequently invoked, referring to the incident of October 1993 when rebels in Mogadishu shot down two Black Hawk helicopters,
killed eighteen American soldiers, and dragged some of them through the streets, prompting the U.S. to withdraw its forces. But unlike
Somalia, the men killed in Fallujah were not members of the U.S. military. Nor were they “civilians,” as many news outlets reported. They
were highly trained private soldiers sent to Iraq by a secretive mercenary company based in the wilderness of North Carolina. Its name is
Blackwater USA.

For the character of a human to reveal truly exceptional qualities, one needs to have the good fortune of being able to observe his actions over many years. If his actions are free of all egotism, if his guiding principle is unequalled generosity, if it is absolutely certain that no reward was sought anywhere and his ideas have left a visible impression on the world; one has, without any doubt, found an unforgettable character.
About fourty years ago, I went on a long hike, in heights unknown to tourists, in these ancient regions of the Alps which extend to Provence.
This region is bordered to the south and south-east by the central course of the Durance, between Sisteron and Mirabeau; to the north by the upper course of the Drôme, from its source until Die; in the west by the plains of Comtat Venaissin and the foothills of Mont Ventoux. It encompasses the whole northern part of the department of Basses Alpes, the southern part of the department of Drôme, and a small enclave of the department of Vaucluse.
At the time, when I undertook my long stroll through this desert, at 1200 to 1300 meters above sea level, it was a barren and monotonous area. Nothing but wild lavender grew there.
I crossed this country along its largest extent and, after three days, I found myself in a most desolate spot. I camped besides the remains of an abandoned village. I had exhausted my water supply the day before and desperately needed to find a source. These buildings, even if they were just ruins, agglomerated like an old wasps' nest, made me think that there must have been once a well or a spring. Indeed there was a well, but all dried out. The five or six houses, without roofs, eroded by wind and rain, the old chapel caved in, were neat and tidy like houses and chapels in inhabited villages, but all life had disappeared.
It was a beautiful and sunny day in June, but on these high plains without shelter, a brutal wind blew unbearably. As it soughed through the carcasses of these old houses, it roared like a wild animal disturbed while feeding.
I had to break my camp and move on. After five hours, I still had found no trace of water, and I despaired to find any. Everywhere the same dryness, the same woody herbs. In the distance, I thought I saw a small black silhouette, upright, which I took for the trunk of a lone tree. More by chance than by determination, I continued my way in its direction. It was a shepherd. About thirty sheep rested close to him on the hot ground.
He let me drink from his water bottle, and then guided me to his cabin, hidden behind a low mound on the plain. He got his—excellent—water from a deep natural hole, above which he had installed a rudimentary winch.
This man barely talked. Such is the way of loners, but one felt that he was sure of himself and confident of his self-assessment. It was strange in this country stripped of everything. He did not live in a shack but in a true house made of stone, and one could see easily where and how he had restored the ruin he must have found there when he had first arrived there. The roof was solid and tight. The wind blowing across the tiles made the sound of waves washing ashore.
He kept a proper household, his dishes were done, the floor was swept clean, his gun well greased, his soup boiling over the fire. I also noticed that he was freshly shaved, his buttons carefully sewed on, and his clothing had been darned with the great care that renders the repairs nearly invisible.
He shared his soup with me, and when I offered him my tobacco pouch, he said he didn't smoke. His dog, quiet like the man himself, was friendly and without baseness.
It had been silently understood right away that I would spend the night there; the next village was still a day's march and a half away. Furthermore, I knew the character of these villages perfectly well. There are four or five, spread apart on the slopes of this high plain amidst thickets of white oak, at the very end of the navigable roads. They are inhabited by charburners making charcoal. These are bad places to live. Living close to one another in this rough climate, Summer and Winter alike, the families being cramped together in close quarters increases their selfishness and leads to excessive unreflected ambition in their constant desire to escape these places.
The men bring the coal to the city in their trucks and then return. Even the best qualities are eroded by this perpetual contrast bath. The women are embittered, always bearing a grudge. These people compete about anything, from the coal sale to the place on the church bank, about the virtues of the women and the vices of the men, and about the general fray of the vices and the virtues, without rest. On top of that, the equally incessant wind strains the nerves. Suicide is epidemic, and there are many cases of madness, nearly always deadly.
The shepherd, who did not smoke, fetched a small bag from which he poured a pile of acorns onto the table. He began examining them closely one after the other, separating the good ones from the bad ones. I smoked my pipe. I offered to help. He told me this was his business. And indeed, seeing with how much care he performed the job, I did not insist. That was our whole conversation. Once he had separated enough of the good acorns, he counted them in packets of ten, eliminating in the process the smaller ones or those that were slightly chapped, for he truly scrutinized them. Once he had lying one hundred perfect acorns in front of him, he stopped and we went to bed.
The company of this man instilled peace. I asked him the next morning whether I might stay and relax the whole day there at his place. He found it completely normal, or, more exactly, he gave me the impression that nothing could disturb him. I didn't really need the rest, but I had become curious and wanted to know more. He collected his flock of sheep and led them to their pastures. Before leaving, he dunked the small bag in which he had collected the carefully chosen and counted acorns into a bucket of water.
I noticed that instead of a stick he carried an iron rod, thick like a thumb and about a meter and a half long. I just leisurely walked along, on a path parallel to his. The pasture of his animals was in a small depression. He left his dog in charge of the flock and climbed back up to me. I feared he would reproach me for my intrusion, but not at all: it was his usual route and he invited me to accompany him if I had nothing better to do. He walked for about two hundred meters.
When he had arrived where he had wanted to go, he planted his iron rod into the ground. In the hole he put an acorn, which he then covered again. He was planting oaks. I asked him if this land was his property. He answered in the negative. Did he know whose land it was? He didn't know. He assumed it was common property, or maybe it belonged to someone who didn't care about it. He didn't worry about knowing the landowners. In this way, he planted extremely carefully one hundred acorns.
After we had eaten at noon, he began again to sort his seeds. I must have asked insistingly enough, for he answered my questions. For three years he had been planting trees in this solitude, more than one hundred thousand acorns. Of these one hundred thousand, twenty thousand had grown. He expected to lose half of these twenty thousand, due to rodents or simply the unpredictables in the nature of destiny. Remained ten thousand oaks that would grow in this place where there had been nothing before.
At that point, I suddenly wondered how old this man was. He was visibly older than fifty years. Fifty-five, he told me. His name was Elzéard Bouffier. He once had owned a farm in the valley. He had accomplished his life. He had lost his only son, then his wife. He had retreated to this lonely place, where he was content and happy to live a slow life, with his sheep and his dog. He had come to the conclusion that this country was dying for want of trees. He added that, since he had no more important business, he had decided to remedy this situation.
As I was at that time, despite my youth, leading a solitary life, I knew that the heart of a recluse had to be touched delicately. Nevertheless, I made a mistake. Precisely because of my young age, I could not help but imagine the future according to myself and a certain search for happiness. I told him that in thirty years, these ten thousand oaks would be magnificent. He answered simply that, if God lent him life, in thirty years, he would have planted so many others that these ten thousand would be like a drop of water in the sea.
Moreover, he was already experimenting with the reproduction of beeches, and he had behind his house a seedbed with trees grown from beech-nuts. Protected from his sheep by a fence made of wire netting, they were splendid. He was also thinking about birches for the depressions where, so he told me, there was moisture only a few meters below the surface.
We parted the following day.
The next year, the war of 14 broke out, in which I served for five years. An infantryman had no time to think about trees. To tell the truth, the encounter had not lasted with me: it had been no more than a hobby-horse, like a stamp collection, and I had forgotten it.
Discharged after the war, I found myself with only a small demobilization premium, but with a big desire to breathe a little pure air. Without an exact plan—except this one—I retraced my steps through this barren region.
The country had not changed. But still, beyond the dead village, I saw in the distance a kind of grey fog covering the heights like a carpet. Since the last evening, I had been thinking again about this shepherd tree planter. "Ten thousand oaks," I said to myself, "occupy a really large space."
I had seen too many people die in the last five years not to imagine easily the death of Elzéar Bouffier, even more so because at twenty, one considers anyone of fifty years to be an old man with nothing left but death. He had not died. He was even extremely spry. He had switched trade. He only had four sheep, but, on the other hand, a hundred bee hives. He had gotten rid of the sheep which put in danger his tree plantations. Because, he told me (and I realized it), he had not worried at all about the war. He had continued imperturbably to plant.

كانت صحبة هذا الرجل تزرع في نفسي السكينة. سألته في الصباح التالي لو استطيع المكوث والراحة لديه طوال النهار، كان الأمر بالنسبة له طبيعي جداً أو أكثر تحديداً أعطاني انطباع أنه لا يوجد شيء يستطيع إزعاجه. في الواقع لم أكن في حاجة للراحة، بل أنني أصابني الفضول وأردت أن أعرف المزيد. جمع الرعي قطيعه وأرشده إلى مرعاه. إلا أنه قبل أن يرحل طمر الكيس الذي يحتوي على الحبات التي اختارها بعناية في وعاء من الماء.
لاحظت أن الرجل يحمل معه قضيباً حديدياً يستعمله كعصا للمشي عرضها يماثل سمك إصبع الإبهام ويصل طوله إلى متر ونصف المتر. مشيت في طريق موازٍ لطريقه ببطء. كان مرعي أغنامه يقع في منخفض صغير. ترك الراعي قطيعة في حراسة الكلب ثم صعد إلى حيث كنت أقف. خشيت أن يعنفني على تطفلي، إلا أن ذلك لم يحدث، لقد كان هذا هو طريقه المعتاد ودعاني كي اذهب معه إن لم يكن لدي ما أفعله. مشى الراعي حوالي مائتين متر.
عندما وصل إلى المكان الذي يريده، زرع القضيب الحديدي في الأرض. وضع حبة بلوط في الحفرة الناتجة عن القضيب وغطاها بالتراب. لقد كان يزرع أشجار البلوط. سألته إذا كان يملك هذه الأرض، أجاب بالنفي. سألته إذا كان يعلم من يملك هذه الأرض، قال أنه لا يعلم. افترض أن الأرض ملك للعامة أو ربما ملك لشخص لا يهتم بها. لم يقلقه أمر معرفة مالكي الأرض. وبهذه الطريقة قام بزراعة مائة حبة بلوط بعناية فائقة.

عند هذه النقطة، تبادر في ذهني فجأة كم يبلغ هذا الرجل من العمر. يبدو انه أكبر من خمسين عاماً، أخبرني أنه يبلغ من العمر خمسة وخمسين. اسمه إلزيار بوفييه. كان يملك مزرعة في الوادي. كان قد أكمل حياته. فقد ابنه الوحيد وتلته أمه. ذهب إلى هذا المكان المنعزل حيث كان قانعاً وراضياً بحياته المملة بصحبة أغنامه وكلبه. خلص الرجل إلى أن هذه البلاد تموت بسبب قلة الأشجار. وأضاف أنه نظراً إلى أنه ليس لديه أمور هامة، قرر أن يعالج هذا الأمر.

TABLE “A” EXCLUDED
The regulations in Table “A” in the Fourth Schedule to the Companies Act Cap, 50 shall not apply to the Company, but the following provisions shall, subject to repeal, addition and alteration as provided by the Act or these Articles, be the regulations of the Company.
INTERPRETATION
In these Articles, unless the subject or context otherwise requires, the words standing in the first column of the table next hereinafter contained shall bear the meanings set opposite to them respectively in the second column thereof: -
The Company
The Act: The Companies Act, Cap. 50 and/or any statutory modification, amendment
or re-enactment thereof for the time being in force or any and every other act for the time being in force concerning companies and affecting the Company and any reference to any provision of the Act is to that provision as so modified, amended or re-enacted or contained in any such subsequent Companies Act.
These Articles: These Articles of Association as originally framed or as altered from time to time by special resolutions or other regulations of the Company for the time being in force.
Directors or Board: The Board of Directors of the Company from time to time.
Director: Any person acting as a Director of the Company and includes any person duly appointed and acting for the time being as an Alternate Director.
The Office: The Registered Office for the time being of the Company.
The Seal: The common seal of the Company or the official seal or duplicate common seal, as may be appropriate.
The Secretary: The Secretary or Secretaries appointed under these Articles and includes any person entitled to perform the duties of a Secretary temporarily.
Member: A member of the Company.
Month: Calendar month.
2.2 (i) Words denoting the singular number only shall include the plural number, and vice versa.
(ii) Words denoting the masculine gender only shall include the feminine gender; and
(iii) Words denoting persons shall include corporations.
2.3 Expressions referring to writing shall, unless the contrary intention appears, be construed as including references to printing, lithography, photography and other modes of representing or reproducing words in a visible form.
2.4 Words or expressions contained in these Articles shall be interpreted in accordance with the provisions of the Interpretation Act, Cap. 1, and of the Act as in force at the date at which these Articles become binding on the Company.
2.5 If at any time, the Company has only one (1) member, then and in such event, unless the contrary intention appears: -
(i) any reference in an Article to the “members” is a reference to that member; and
(ii) without limiting Article 2.5(i), an Article which confers a power or imposes an obligation on the members to do or carry out a particular act or thing, confers that power or imposes that obligation on that member.
2.6 If that any time, the minimum number of Directors as fixed by these Articles is one (1) and the Company has only one (1) Director, then and in such event, unless the contrary intention appears: -
(i) any reference in an Article to the “Directors” is a reference to that Director; and
(ii) without limiting Article 2.6(i), an Article which confers a power or imposes an obliged on the Directors to do or carry out a particular act or thing confers that power or imposes that obligation on that Director.

تعريفات
1.2 ستحمل الكلمات المذكورة في هذه اللوائح والمبينة في العمود الأول من الجدول التالي المعاني المبينة مقابل كل منها على التوالي في العمود الثاني، ما لم يشير الموضوع أو السياق إلى خلاف ذلك:-
الشركة
القانون : هو قانون الشركات، الفصل الخمسون و/أو أي تعديلات تشريعية أو قوانين جديدة لاحقة سارية في الوقت الحالي أو أي وكل القوانين الأخرى السارية في الوقت الحالي المتعلقة بالشركات والتي لها أثر على الشركة وأي إشارة إلى أي من أحكام القانون والتي تؤثر على هذا البند كما هو معدل أو منصوص عليه أو موجود في أي من قوانين الشركات اللاحقة.
هذه اللوائح : هي قانون الشركة التأسيسي كما وضع في المقام الأول أو كما عدل من وقت لآخر من خلال قرارات خاصة أو لوائح أخرى خاصة بالشركة في وقت سريانها.
المديرون أو مجلس الإدارة : هو مجلس إدارة الشركة من وقت لآخر.
المدير : هو أي شخص يحتل منصب مدير الشركة ويشمل ذلك أي شخص عُيِّنَ على نحو وافٍ ويحتل في الوقت الحالي منصب المدير البديل.
المكتب : هو المكتب المسجل في الوقت الحالي للشركة.
الختم : هو الختم العام للشركة أو الختم الرسمي أو الختم العام البديل حسب الحالة.
أمين السر : هو أمين السر أو أمناء السر المعينين تحت مظلة هذه اللوائح ويشمل ذلك أي شخص مخول القيام بمهام أمين السر بصفة مؤقتة.
العضو : هو أحد الأعضاء في الشركة.
الشهر : هو الشهر الشمسي (طبقًا للتقويم الميلادي).
2.2 (أ) قد تشمل الكلمات التي تشير إلى المفرد فقط الجمع والعكس بالعكس.
(ب) قد تشمل الكلمات التي تشير إلى المذكر فقط المؤنث.
(ج) قد تشمل الكلمات التي تشير إلى الأفراد الشركات.
3.2 قد تفسر التعبيرات التي تشير إلى الكتابة على أنها تشير إلى الطباعة والطباعة المميكنة والتصوير الفوتوغرافي وأي شكل آخر من أشكال تمثيل أو نسخ الكلمات في صيغة مرئية.
4.2 تُفَسَّر الكلمات أو التعبيرات المذكورة في هذه اللوائح وفقًا لأحكام قانون التفسير، الفصل الأول ووفقًا للقانون الساري في الوقت الذي تصبح فيه هذه اللوائح ملزمة للشركة.
5.2 في حال حدوث أن تحتوي الشركة على عضو واحد (1) فقط، ففي هذه الحالة يكون الأمر كالتالي ما لم يتضح غير ذلك:-
(أ) أي إشارة في هذه اللوائح إلى "الأعضاء" هي إشارة إلى ذلك العضو.
(ب) تمنح اللائحة 2.5 (أ)، وهي اللائحة التي تسبغ سلطة أو تفرض التزامًا على الأعضاء كي يؤدوا أو ينفذوا قرارًا أو شيئًا محددًا، دون حصر هذه السلطة أو تفرض هذا الالتزام على ذلك العضو.
6.2 في حال أصبح العدد الأدنى من المديرين كما هو محدد في هذه اللوائح هو واحد (1) وأصبح للشركة مدير واحد (1) فقط، يصبح الأمر كالتالي ما لم يتضح غير ذلك:-
(أ) أي إشارة في هذه اللوائح إلى "المديرين" هي إشارة إلى ذلك المدير.
(ب) تمنح اللائحة 2.6 (أ)، وهي اللائحة التي تسبغ سلطة أو تفرض التزامًا على المديرين كي يؤدوا أو ينفذوا قرارًا أو شيئًا محددًا، دون حصر هذه السلطة أو تفرض هذا الالتزام على ذلك المدير.

Acupuncture eases pain in the limbs because it releases a natural molecule called adenosine, international neuroscientists reported today in the prestigious journal, Nature Neuroscience. The study, which was funded by the U.S. National Institute of Health as well as the New York State Spinal Cord Injury Program, discovered that acupuncture resulted in more pain relief when compared to any painkiller in market.
“There is enough evidence in history and modern clinical trials that acupuncture is the best remedy for any sort of pain. Last year alone, we have treated more than 819 women with severe migraine and more than 4910 patients who were treated for chronic back pain with only a course of acupuncture” said Dr. Xiaoling Li, Head of Alternative Treatments at Dubai Wellbeing Center, Chaslu.
Acupuncture is being taken very seriously these days and gets huge respect in the medical world. Many UAE insurance companies are covering the treatment with acupuncture.
"Acupuncture has been a mainstay of medical treatment in certain parts of the world for 4,000 years, but because it has not been understood completely, many people have remained skeptical," said Maiken Nedergaard of the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, who headed the research.
The World Health Organization says acupuncture is effective for specific conditions. “Acupuncture is particularly effective for depression, fertility problems, migraines , back pain and insomnia,” Dr. Li said. “Combined with a specific diet, we have seen that people can lose significant amount of weight since it works to suppress the hunger feeling up to 19 hours.”
Acupuncture is based on the theory of meridian pathways, and there are 12 major meridians that run throughout the entire body. They connect to different organs, muscles, tissues, and the areas where doctors can access them on the skin which are the acupuncture points. Currently Chaslu, Dubai Wellbeing Center is the only place where meridian based lymph acupuncture is administered which works both on pain management as well as weight loss.
