Information System for Quality Assurance in Translation, Education and Management

You must log in before you can access most features of this event.

Schedule:On-demand
Description:Translators and students may not understand the meaning of the main concepts and the difference between closely related terms. Managers and employees may not understand the meaning of the actions they have to take, the acts, facts, and documents they are dealing with. As a result, managers make decisions based on intuition, translators do translations according to their individual preferences, employees implement the decisions as they want. All this involves high costs and leads to bad results. A definition-based approach is the key to success in education, management, translation, and in all aspects of life. Management decision support systems are expensive to develop, besides, they imply maintenance costs. Therefore, at a lower level, a definition-based knowledge-base can be the first step to decision-making optimisation in translation, education, and management. Companies and institutions often create concept systems consciously or unconsciously, at different levels and in different fields, as a part of their information system. Sometimes, they include mono-, bi- or multilingual glossaries, images, descriptions, and other standardised terminology resources to be explored. The information system developed can be used either as a desktop application or as a conceptual model. It has a user-friendly interface and is fit for any field of application. Combined with CAT-tools, this approach ensures not only intercultural transfer of specialised knowledge but also better language acquisition and higher quality of translation at a lower cost. We offer a solution based on legal or doctrinal definitions found in official documents which enable a proper understanding of the meaning of terms and, thus, effective and successful communication which results from quality assurance.

Attendees will:
  • learn how to create a definition-based knowledge base working with official reference documents;
  • use company’s resources in the most efficient way by means of information system for translation, education and management;
  • assure quality in translation, education and management.
