Tomáš Svoboda je garantem německého oddělení na Ústavu translatologie Univerzity Karlovy v Praze, kde mimo jiné vyučuje nástroje počítačem podporovaného překladu (CAT), odborný překlad a dějiny překladu. Na ústavu vystudoval angličtinu a němčinu a v roce 2004 získal titul Ph.D v oboru translatologie. Disponuje jak akademickým zázemím, tak rozsáhlými zkušenostmi v překladu ve svobodném povolání a též v oblasti institucionálního překladu: Mezi lety 2004 a 2007 pracoval pro Generální ředitelství pro překlady Evropské Komise v Lucemburku. V letech 2008 až 2011 působil jako externí překladatel pro Evropskou centrální banku ve Frankfurtu nad Mohanem. Překladatelské služby poskytuje již více než 20 let, a to pro klienty v České republice i v zahraničí.
Zabývá se rovněž oblastí řízení kvality v překladu a působí jako expert pro tuto oblast pro Český institut pro akreditaci. Pracuje jako odborný poradce a konzultant v oblasti certifikace překladatelských služeb podle normy ČSN EN 15038.
Přednáší v oblasti IT a nástrojů CAT pro překladatele i agentury. Je členem Výkonného výboru Jednoty tlumočníků a překladatelů a skupiny zaměřující se na CAT a nové technologie v rámci FIT Europe.
Pravidelně publikuje, mimo jiné na téma dějin překladu, kvality překladu, institucionálního překladu, odborného překladu, jakož i nových trendů v překladatelské profesi.
Tomáš Svoboda is Head of the German Department at the Institute of Translation Studies, Charles University, Prague, where he teaches CAT tools, technical translation, and translation
history. He studied English and German translation and earned his PhD in Translation Studies in 2004.
He has both an academic background and extensive experience in freelance and institutional translation: From 2004 to 2007 Tomáš
worked for the Directorate-General for Translation, European Commission in Luxembourg. Between 2008 and 2011 he worked as an external translator for the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, Germany. For more than 20 years, he has translated and interpreted freelance for clients both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
He is also active in the field of quality management. Tomáš is an appointed Expert in Translation Quality for the Czech National Body for Standardisation and specialises in the certification process under EN 15038 as an expert auditor and consultant. He is a lecturer in IT and CAT tools for translators and agencies.
He is a member of the Executive Board of the Czech Union of
Translators and Interpreters and of FIT Europe Technology Group. His publications include work on translation history, translation quality, institutional translation, technical translation, new
developments in the translation profession.
