French term

masque de chambre

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Underground concrete chambers for telecoms etc. installations
The context here is the 'chambres de tirage / jonction' being installed as part of a long-distance fibre-optic communications network. At various points along the line are going to be installed these pre-cast, roughly coffin-sized 'pulling chambers' for both running the optical cables into underground conduits etc. and also for housing various accessories used for junctions, including 'splice protection enclosures'.
I know what this refers to: it is the slightly thinner part of the chamber wall that possibly already has 'knockout' sections to suit pipe connections. But I'm having difficulty finding what we call these specifically in EN? The only thing I have found vaguely similar is 'transition' — but the seems to relate more to some kind of 'adaptor'.
This image illustrates the kind of idea (though this is not at all the same kind of chamber:

I have no further context, as this is just a set of very general preliminary specifications in an RFQ.
The EN required here is EN-GB.

To Asker I am no expert in the field, but it seems to me that you already have the translation. Isn't it a "knockout panel"? See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1n9MnGtwAs . Also, see the figure in the first page of https://www.cubis-systems.com/media/2285/telco-manhole-range...

knockout window, duct window, duct bank window

The 'masque' is a panel with a reduced thickness around its edge and a number of reduced-thickness areas within it. If passing a single duct, one of the circular (generally) areas can be knocked out, as you quite correctly say, or if there are a large number of ducts (preferably - especially if you are a precast concrete products manufacturer - in a duct bank), you knock out the entire panel.
See tutorial: https://www.fransbonhomme.fr/c-ctuweb/c-ctuweb_actualites/c-...

There are a number of terms in English. You'll see 'knockout window' in the drawing here: https://www.utilitystructures.com/pdf/E39.pdf

"DUCT BANK KNOCKOUT locations shall be marked by concrete impression on the inside wall for identification.
7.4 If possible, WINDOWS for duct runs on opposite walls shall be in alignment with each other so cable can be pulled through.3

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks a lot! I appreciate your contribution, and in particular, the use of the term 'panel' in this context — being of course already familiar with 'knockout, this was the crux of the matter for me. All your suggestions would work in many contexts, I chose the one that worked best in mine and bore repetition, as well as fitting with other established terminology in the document."

knockout (wall) panel

Knockouts are well known in electrical context:

Knockouts are partially stamped, quarter-size openings in the electrical boxes that service such things as outlets and switches. Once removed, a knockout allows electrical wires to be run in and out of the box.

Enclosures for some purposes have partially punched openings (knockouts) which can be removed to accommodate cables, connectors, or conduits.
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Electrical_enclosure

Same is also possible for precast shafts and pull-chambers.

A utility vault is an underground room providing access to subterranean public utility equipment, such as valves for water or natural gas pipes, or switchgear for electrical or telecommunications equipment.
:
Utility vaults are commonly constructed out of reinforced concrete boxes, poured concrete or brick. Small ones are usually entered through a manhole or grate on the topside and closed up by a manhole cover. Such vaults are considered confined spaces and can be hazardous to enter. Large utility vaults are similar to mechanical or electrical rooms in design and content.

Question: I found a precast concrete vault online that will meet my application however now we are making modifications like a knockout and adding a sump. …
Answer 1: Utility Vault Company, and others, have standard vault models for electrical and storm water applications that have knockout panelsas needed.

3. Application
814 vaults are used to construct the underground electric system. This precast concrete vault may be used to house medium size transformers up to 501 kVA, three-phase load break junction boxes, and service connections and splices for the distribution system.
