English term

Safe Harbor

English to Malay Law/Patents Law (general) Forward-looking statements in business presentation
This term appears on the same line as the term "Disclaimer" at the top of the page that contains forward-looking statements of a company presentation showing prior year's highlights and new year's outlook.

Safe harbor is defined as "a legal statute that eliminates blame or liability of someone, as long as their actions were performed honestly". Is there a similar term in Malay?

Safe Harbor; lingkungan keselamatan

- In the two other languages that I work in, the term is retained in English in German when written in uppercase [i.e. Safe Harbor, otherwise sicherer Hafen/sicheren Hafens] and always translated in French [Sphère de Sécurité] regardless.

- For Malay, since it is a policy agreement established between the US Department of Commerce and the EU and there is no equivalent policy/agreement in our country, I personally have opted to follow the German practice of retaining the English when it is written as a term [Safe Harbor], rendering it either italicised or in quotes with the description in parenthesis or as footnote, and only translating it when it is not.

- When/If translating, I suggest following the French practice of translating what it is (sphère de sécurité = lingkungan keselamatan) rather than giving a literal translation (pelabuhan/pangkalan keselamatan).

lingkungan keselamatan can also be written as just lingkungan selamat for brevity.
