German term

Aufnahme

German to English Law/Patents Science (general)
Hi,

This is patent litigation about a component design (System on a Chip) in smartphones (electronic module).

DE:

and so on and so on.

EN:
(1) Shot, (2) photo/picture, alternate between (1) and (2) depending on individual context, - if so, how -, other?

Best regards,

Discussion

Steffen Walter Aug 9, 2022:
Image These are all images in my opinion - a "Mikroskop-Aufnahme" is a microscopic image. Also note that SEM and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) are often combined - https://rtilab.com/techniques/sem-eds-analysis/
Sebastian Witte (asker) Aug 9, 2022:
And another one 69.

Here is another example Nachfolgend eingeblendet ist ein mittels energiedispersiver Röntgenspektroskopie hergestelltes Bild:
Steffen Walter Aug 9, 2022:
Thank you... ... for clarifying. I still think that "image" might fit in all of these instances because the term is sufficiently generic. Your categories would then be figures, illustrations and images.
Sebastian Witte (asker) Aug 9, 2022:
@ SW The term query is for the use of "Aufnahme" throughout the project, which is 19 K words. In this project, "Aufnahme" is exclusively used in the sense of taking a shot using various capturing methods, one of which is SEM, and one of which might possibly also be photography.
Steffen Walter Aug 9, 2022:
Does this mean... ... that not all of your examples shown in the context field relate to SEM?

On a related note, photos can also be referred to as images.
Sebastian Witte (asker) Aug 9, 2022:
@ SW Sure. However, he uses various methods to take his shots, which might possibly also include photos. I don't have the list to hand right now. Basically, scanning electron microscopy is just one of them.
Steffen Walter Aug 9, 2022:
I don't understand... ... your problem with "image". In my view, this is indeed the term to be used when it comes to scanning electron microscopy (SEM), as mentioned in your context.

See, for instance, https://www.nanoscience.com/techniques/scanning-electron-mic...
"A scanning electron microscope (SEM) projects and scans a focused stream of electrons over a surface to create an image."
Sebastian Witte (asker) Aug 9, 2022:
Would you guys agree that "illustration" is wrong as it covers non-photographic depictions, which are not meant? Would you then also agree that the great idea "image" is not the right choice as it, at its margins, covers non-photographic depictions? See I have to distinguish a bit, we have the Figuren (figures), Abbildungen (illustrations), Aufnahmen, etc.

Specifically, an A scan is recorded for each beam angle and the information is also presented in a cross section image of the component

Peer comment(s):
