Swedish term

Utdelning (av företag)

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Accounting Annual report
Hi, I need some clarification on the use of "utdelning" "dela up" with regard to a company - the examples below all refer to the same entity. Does "distributed" work (as in its shares are being distributed) or would "divested" be more accurate? I believe however "sakutdelning" is "distribution in kind" This appears in the Group company's annual report.

Thanks for your help!

AVVECKLAD VERKSAMHET

distribution in kind (of a company)

The Swedish preposition ('av') IMO is ambiguous as a distrib-in-kind made or non-cash 'dividend in bankruptcy' by the company would make more sense in a sak-*upp*-delning scenario.

However, the 'avvecklad verksamhet' as a 'wound-up or liquidated Business / Company Division : vilka stod för 10 % av koncernens verksamhet (business / trade - BrE: turnover AmE: volume of sales) may have been spun or hived off in a swap 'as valuable consideration' and *vested* in a 'white knight' savio(u)r or other acquirer.

An odd choice of terminology that I never came across in decades of Swedish business & law.

Example sentence:

a person or company making an acceptable counter-offer for a company facing a hostile takeover bid. "the company was sold off to a white knight to fend off a hostile raider"

Peer comment(s):

neutral Christopher Schröder : Not a white knight, it was distributed to shareholders // It doesn’t need to be mentioned, as it’s implicit in any utdelning. Why not give straight answers rather than adding unnecessary and irrelevant complications?

The text makes no mention of distribution to shareholders. // That's rich coming from a sniper from the wings who rarely posts answers of his or her own at all and never studied company law.
