Translation - English What is Swiftlets?
Swiftlet bird (scientifically named Collocalia, known as Walet in Indonesia) belongs to the Apodidae family, which is not the same as the common Swallow bird. These birds live in flocks along tropical and subtropical seaside. The average body length of a Swiftlet is 9 centimeters. The average life span of a Swiftlet is about 15 to 18 years. During the breeding season, the salivary glands of this species expand to produce the special inspissated saliva for binding twigs and other detritus together for building the nest, which is a shallow cup stuck to the cave wall.
English to Chinese: Getting to Know Bird's Nest General field: Marketing Detailed field: Livestock / Animal Husbandry
Source text - English Getting to Know Bird's Nest
Edible Bird's Nest is the dried glutinous secretion of the salivary glands from Southern Asia swiftlets. The saliva which acts as the nest cement is produced by a pair of sublingual glands located beneath the tongue of the swiftlet. This nest is usually found in caves near shoreline cliffs or under eaves of house and is hand-collected. Most bird's nest are produced in Southeast Asia countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam which have the most ideal climate and environment to provide the top quality Bird's Nest.
English to Chinese: Beneficial Effects of Bird's Nest
Source text - English Beneficial Effects of Bird's Nest
The investigations have provided good scientific evidence that supports the notion that the bird's nest can facilitate growth, moisture the skin, replenish strength and vital energy, enhance the metabolism in our human body, accelerate the recovery from disease and reinforce immunity.
In a publication in the Journal of Food Technology (Vol 8 Issue 3, 2010), Aswir Abd Rashed and W.M. Wan Nazaimoon wrote:
Major components of Edible Bird's Nest are mainly carbohydrates, glycoproteins and trace elements (Kathan and weeks, 1969; Nakagawa et al., 2007). Sialic acid (9%) is the major component of carbohydrate in Edible Bird's Nest (Colombo et al., 2003). Use of sialic acid may benefit the neurological and intellectual advantages in infants (Chau et al., 2003). As an excellent immune system moderator, sialic acid affects the flow resistance of mucus which in turn repels bacteria, viruses and other harmful microbes. Its related benefits include lowering of the LDL cholesterol preventing influenza A and B strains increasing fertility and controlling blood coagulation. The other major carbohydrates include 7.2% N-acetylactosamie (galNAc), 5.3% N-acetylgluco-samine (glcNAc), 16.9% galactose and 0.7% fucose (Dhawan and Kuhad, 2002). GalNAc is involved in the function of the synapses, the junction between nerve cells and deficiency can cause severe memory problems (Argueso et al., 2003). GlcNAc is an amino acid and a prominent precursor for glycosaminoglycans,a major component of joint cartilage.
Product Benefits:
Prof. Y.C. Kong from Hong Kong University reported that:
Bird's nest contain a "cell division inducing hormone" and an "epithelial growth factor" that can stimulate the growth and division of cells. Thereby enhancing tissue growth, cellular regeneration and cell-mediated immunity in humans.
Acccording to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bird's nest:
• Boosts immunity system
• Maintains youthful and glowing complexion
• Speeds up recovery from illness
• Stimulates appetite
• Helps digestion
• Invigorates the lungs
• Reduces heatiness
The bird's nests are adaptable for any age group.
Translation - Chinese
