"without *showing*/displaying any pronounced/clear/evident preference"
Evidently our pronounced preference goes to the clear *showing*, rather than the (somewhat exaggerated?) 'displaying'.
Hence, in our opinion, the points should go to our colleague initiating 'to show'.
