This is the official name.
The old Iraqi government system was comprised of Ministries overlooking a number of Directorate-General offices which were in turn divided into Directorates.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, where I worked for 15 years, was divided into several Directorate-General offices such as Directorate-General of Labour, Directorate-General of Prisons, Directorate-General of Cooperatives and so on. Directorate-General of Census was affiliated to the old Ministry of Social Affairs. Later on it was moved to the Ministry of Interior.
