Hollywood pitch

"Current thinking sees no essential difference between the interests fo the public and the interests of industry. Indeed, in the summer of 2004, the FDA’s chief counsel came under fire for inviting drug companies to inform him of lawsuits against them so the FDA could help in their defence. “We can’t afford to get involved in every case – we have to pick our shots”, he said, advising them therefore to “make it sound like a Hollywood pitch”.

Grazie mille e buona settimana! S.

convincerli/persuaderli

Dal dizionario American Heritage:

http://www.bartleby.com/61/35/P0333500.html

11. Informal a. A line of talk designed to persuade: “[his] pious pitch for . . . austerity” (Boston Globe). b. An advertisement.

"Unlike the relatively solitary act of writing a screenplay, a Hollywood pitch calls on a unique skill set, ranging from storytelling tricks of the trade to door-to-door salesmanship. Being able to sell your idea "in the room," and not just on the page, greatly increases your odds of placing original material in the studio pipeline, not to mention creating a more visible and lasting presence for yourself and your work in the hyper-competitive world of Hollywood screenwriting. "

Il De Mauro Paravia traduce "pitch" così:

4. (sales talk) parlantina f.

Il Garzanti:

10 (fam.) loquacità, parlantina: the salesman's - is often misleading, la parlantina del venditore è spesso fuorviante; to make a - for sthg., parlare energicamente a favore di qlco.

HIH!

Hollywood pitch (I would live it as it is)

Looks like a ref. to assays made by actors when they try to get a part in a movie (sembra un riferimento ai provini che fanno gli attori per avere un ruolo). A pitch is a speech of 2-5 min to sell your company or whatever you have to sell. So pharmas have to present very briefly their case in order to be selected by the FDA since the selection is limited. My guess...
