Method 2 : Modulating the parameter (the wavelength in the example of FIG. 11 ) in a more complicated (nonlinear) way, e.g. by adding a periodic modulation at a frequency f to the signal shown in FIG. 11 ( b ). Then, lock-in techniques can be used instead of recording the dips, and in many cases, more accuracy can be achieved than with other methods.
