Discussion

aziza_cloud Sep 21, 2014:
In an English-speaking country, a document which notifies the other party of a new pleading in a legal proceeding, be it an entirely new action, or a sub-action, would be called a notice. One would attach the pleading to the notice thereof. So a 'notice of appeal' would be accompanied by the pleading, which is an appeal. One invariably uses the term 'notice of appeal', because it is a notice, not just a memorandum of something. The term 'memorandum' usually applies to something sent to the court to explain 'facts' of a case, and the 'memorandum' might be read narrowly or broadly. The term 'memorandum' is not typically used to refer to a notice, since it is not a notice.
Similar terms would include 'notice of action' or 'notice of claim', 'notice of sale', 'notice of auction', etc.

ويجب تقديم صحف الطعون في الأحكام الصادرة من المحكمة الابتدائية أو الاستئنافية، موقعة من أحد المحامين المقبولين للمرافعة أمام المحكمة المقدم إليها الطعن.

notice of appeal

at least that's what we'd call it in the UK - when a defendant/claimant wants to bring an appeal, these are the papers they have to file
