Catalan term

Maridatges de vins i Menjar

Catalan to English Science Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
I've just had an argument with someone who insists that there's an English translation of this word which was similar to the original. I insisted that the only translation of this word was Food & wine matching, or matching wine with food, etc. Some wine experts even use "a perfect marriage of food and wine", which I think sounds too farfetched, but I’m no wine connoisseur.

Can anyone shed any light on this matter?

Many thanks
Patrick

food and wine pairing /matching

These two are widely used, perhaps is more "pairing" than matching, I think.
But look at the definition of "maridaje" (spanish translation from catalan) and will see that marriage is not so far...
Peer comment(s):

agree Berni Armstrong : I'm afraid marriage sounds far closer to the sort of pretentious crap wine buffs spout all too often Patrick... ;-)

moltes gràcies Berni, wine descriptions tend to be quite florid. Maridatge comes from "marido" which is spouse actually!!
