Can anyone explain exactly what this denotes? As far as I can tell, it just seems to designate a large English saloon car such as a Bentley or Jaguar. I'm not sure if there is a generic term for this in English?

: of course I prefer the word English myself, as I'm not bothered about anybody else but when you google it the phrase leads straight to this question whereas using British leads to some fairly solid links.....
