I am pretty sure that it is being used in the sense of 'to see OR note' — though it should be made clear from the rest of the study if p was one of the results (seen), or one of the preconditions (met)

Yes, it is clear from the Wiki article cited by MHH that the p-value (probability) can only be the outcome of a calculation, and not a parameter for it, which serves to confirm what I have said above.
