Russian to English Social Sciences History
А когда у него [Аввакум] возникли разногласия с товарищем и соузником дьяконом Федором, то донес их общему мучителю -- сотнику Андрею, что Федор по ночам выбиралься из своих врытых в землю срубов для общения с единомышленниками. Федор смог потом передать на волю, что его схватили "... нага суща (...) и начаша бити зело без милости двема дубцы (...) до крови (...). А друзи мои зряще мя и смеющеся!"

I understand up to the quotation, but from there the old Russian is hard for me, especially the grammar.

I'm trying to think of an alternative that would sound suitably archaic, but not coming up with much... bare perhaps... whether or not that's even necessary depends on what style you're using for the rest of this sentence
