Mechanically agitate (the)

Sequences such as "Mechanically agitate for xx time" seem to occur less than "Mechanically agitate the xxx for xx time"
Example sentence:

"Mechanically agitate the milk for at least 5 min until sufficient homogeneity is obtained. If the tank is equipped with a periodical, time-programmed agitation system, sampling may be carried out after a short duration of agitation (1 to 2 min)."
