la progression du règne de l’événement

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
From a short description of a book on the future of museums. Unfortunately, this paragraph is all the context I have.
I think it's the idea that museums are becoming more event-driven as opposed to building their permanent collections, but I am having trouble putting this clearly and smoothly. Was thinking of something along the lines of:
another epidsode in the rise of the 'event'.
But working at 11 pm on a Saturday night may be partly responsible for clouding my brain...
Many thanks in advance for your suggestions!

continuing prominence given to events

There are a number of web references to a book of papers from a conference held at the Louvre, which I think must be yours. There are also a few translations profered for your phrase, including on the Seuil publishers publicity blurb, where: L’inéluctabilité
du règne de l’événement becomes: The inescapable prominence given
to events. My suggestion is based on this. Hope it helps!

another step in the onward march of the world of "happening"

Yeah, it's wordy.

At any rate, it might be an opportunity to use "happening" which has a more readily accessible, precise meaning than the very general "event". If it's not too hippy-y.

the onward march of the all-prevailing "event" phenomenon

I would go with "the onward march" suggestion definitely. The phenomenon of the "event" today not just in the art world, is one which is everywhere. The text suggests that it is "reigning" i.e. above others, hence "all-prevailing".
