Spanish term

diplomáticos

Spanish to English Other Cooking / Culinary pastry
This appears as a breakfast item for a big breakfast buffet at a fancy restaurant in Barcelona. My best guess at the moment is (mini??) cream cakes, based on some photos I've seen in Google images, but I could use some verification. Anybody know??

I believe this is a puff pastry, as supported by every recipe entry for "Diplomaticos" that I've found. Since this is on a Spanish menu, you may want to conserve the Spanish name("Diplomaticos") with a short description in parentheses,(puff pastry filled with cream and raspberries) since there are no direct English entries.
Saludos :)

Lisa: I think it's important for you to consider that this is on a BREAKFAST MENU ,where pastries may occur, but usually not a cake!
Peer comment(s):

agree Rachel Fell : I don't know "diplomaticos" but these soud like what I'd call a cream slice (or possibly (raspberry) millefeuille) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mille-feuille

Thanks;Rebecca-I'm familliar with what was called a "Napoleon", and it's definitely a millefeuille (Mil Hojas), pastry puff, and NOT a cake! Saludos.

Pastry/ Cigar

Diplomatico is an Italian dish, actually a dessert. I am not sure whether this is offered in Barcelona as a breakfast dish? Maybe they offer some cigars in that establishment...Dipomáticos are Cuban Cigars.

Napoleon slice

In Spain (and Italy as well) people have sweet breakfasts. They might be offering cigars (for breakfast????) or turn to cannibalism, but in my mind the most probable thing served is the "Napoleon slice", together with Ensaimadas and Croissants.

Have a nice one,
Milena
